Background
“Rik” brings over two decades of unwavering dedication and expertise in helping individuals overcome chemical dependency challenges to his role as a counselor and Treatment Director at WebMed. With a rich academic background and a track record of professional accolades, Rik is committed to supporting individuals on their path to recovery and holistic well-being.
A 1997 graduate of the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Rik embarked on his journey in the field of human services and chemical dependency with a strong foundation in understanding human behavior and fostering positive change. He further honed his skills by attending Fond du Lac Tribal College, where he pursued studies in Human Services/Chemical Dependency, obtaining his LADC (Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor) in 2001.
Joining WebMed in 2023, Rik brings with him a wealth of experience accumulated over 25+ years of dedicated service in the field. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his exceptional contributions, receiving accolades such as the IHS Bemidji Area Director Award in 2020, 2014, and 2010, as well as being voted counselor of the year in 2021. He has helped develop treatment programming that advances service delivery and improves client outcomes, addressing the whole person, including mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health.
Rik’s approach to treatment programming is comprehensive and holistic, addressing the multifaceted needs of individuals by integrating mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of recovery. He believes that recovery is a lifelong journey encompassing not only sobriety but also lifestyle changes, shifts in thinking, and meaningful interpersonal interactions.
